Dirk Jan is a Dutch blues/boogie/roots pianist, singer, songwriter and harmonica player.
Dirk Jan caught the attention of blues legend Junior Wells in 1993, while playing solo as a support act at his concert in Haarlem, Patronaat. Junior Wells was impressed by the young boy’s talent and promptly invited Dirk Jan, then 15 years old, to play along during his entire show.
During his highschool years, DJ did many gigs and jams, performed in a Dutch VPRO television movie about the blues
and he met blues legend Jimmy Rogers in Haarlem.
In 1997, DJ toured Holland and Belgium together with USA bluesdiva Michelle Willson.
He also recorded some tracks as a guest pianist for the album Drip Drip by roots/bluesband Drippin' Honey, and played with them at the Paradiso Amsterdam.
Only 19 years old, Dirk Jan recorded and released his album “Messin’ with the Boogie” for Sascha van Esdonk's Serendip label in 1998. His only album to date.
Raving reviews followed as well as more concerts, like his playing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2000 and 2003 and various times at the Rhythm & Bluesnight at Oosterpoort Groningen, where he met his hero Buddy Guy.
